Ngawa Indigenous Leadership Development Program
"Ngawa" is the Kalkatungu (Kalkadoon) word for strong.
The Ngawa Indigenous Leadership Development Program offers Indigenous students the opportunity to learn more about Indigenous Australian culture, develop leadership skills and support those in need within their local community. Students explore these topics through a range of learning experiences including:
- Discovering the history of Mt Isa: the detection of minerals within the region and what this meant for the Kalkatungu people.
- Understanding how dispossession of country and segregation of people has affected traditional cultural practices
- Looking to the future, in a spirit of recociliation, students are encouraged to move forward together to create a prosperous future for all Australians.
