Spinifex State College – Mount Isa is a three campus facility:
- Junior Secondary
- Senior Secondary
- Residential Campus
Each campus is situated on a separate site.
The Junior Secondary Campus is based on the previous Mount Isa State High School site, the Senior Secondary Campus is based on the previous Kalkadoon State High School site The Residential Campus was purchased and renovated by Education Queensland in 2002 prior to opening in 2003.
Recent additions to the school have been the building of the multi-media centre and the North West Queensland Trade Training Centre, both at the Senior Campus. In 2015 a new library will be opened on the Senior Campus replacing the previous facility which burned down in 2013.
The Junior Campus has in recent years had a full refurbishment of the library and a number of classrooms as part of the Flying Start initiatives.
The Residential Campus is designed to accommodate up to 65 students from rural and remote communities who have limited access to secondary education in their home communities. Students enrol from communities such as Mornington Island in the north, Camooweal and Urandangie in the west, Dajarra and Boulia in the south and Julia Creek in the east. The residential campus also provides an educational facility for families who live on properties in the north west.
