The people of Mount Isa have a history of finding local solutions to Mount Isa challenges. Spinifex State College - Mount Isa was established in 2003 after community consultation showed that creating a new school would provide the best education service to students in our town.
At Spinifex State College we are committed to achieving quality personal outcomes for all our students. These personal outcomes may be in academic, cultural or social areas.
Our aim is to provide students with an educational experience that will equip them with the skills and personal attributes to:
- Advance them on their chosen careers
- Enable them to participate in society; and
- Contribute to the community in which they live.
To achieve this aim parents and students are encouraged to actively work with the school to achieve excellence. Our best success occurs when we are able to work together.

Junior Campus
Spinifex State College - Junior Campus opened its doors to the public for the first time in 2003.
Spinifex is building a reputation in the community for a high quality service to students and parents. This has developed from our high expectations and commitment to academic excellence, student achievements and a program catering for a wide range of student abilities and interests.
The school team is committed to fostering an environment that promotes and supports intellectual endeavours and encourages students to reach their full potential as creative, critical thinkers.

Senior Campus
The senior campus caters for year 11 and 12 students. We ensure students' personal development is met through quality teaching and learning, innovative camps, guest speakers, and a support welfare team.
Our dedicated teachers pride themselves on delivering a strong academic program to enable students to achieve their desired university placement. Individual support is given to students in tutorial lessons with the aim of consolidating class knowledge and improving examination results.
The Mount Isa Institute of TAFE has joined with Spinifex State College to form the Mount Isa Education and Training Precinct. This partnership offers our students quality training at TAFE and school in a variety of certificate courses, giving them a leading edge in gaining a trade, traineeship or full-time work.
Our senior schooling team supports students by preparing them for the Queensland Cores Skills Test, assisting in the selection of university courses (QTAC) and organising and monitoring industry work placements. We have maintained outstanding success in achieving post-school destinations for our students and pride ourselves in sharing in the creating of a young person's future.
